Slide0 (Title):

  • Product Name and Tag Line
  • Photo of your Prototype
  • Desgin Prompt
  • Corporate Partner (if any)
  • Team Name
  • Team Members
  • Date
  • (Number of recent tests & Number of total tests)

For the regular classes, it would be better to summarize the previous pitch after this slide.

✔️ checklist

  • How many times have you done user test since the previous lecture? /
  • What is the total count of your team’s user test? /

Slide1: Prototype (Teaser)

  • Show and describe your prototype very concisely.
  • Clearly state the people (target users) who will get the value.
  • It would be better to use a Elevator Pitch Template below.
For [ target user ] who [ situation or needs ],
the [ product name ] is a [ product category ],
which has [key benefit ].
Unlike [ competitive alternative ]
our product has [ unique differentiation ].

✔️ checklist

  • Are the target users clear? (“What kind of situation are the users in?” and “What are their behavior in that situation?”) /
  • Is there a sketch or a photo of the prototype? /

Slide2: Context & Problem/Needs

  • Clearly state the situation where your problems or needs are present.
  • What is the reason why you solve the problem? How much worth solving the problem? Give us some evidences or clues.

🔨 toolkit

✔️ checklist

  • Are the problems or needs you are solving clear? /
  • Are the problems or needs really worth solving? /
  • Are there some data that supports the problems or needs are really worth solving? (e.g. the result of user interview or observation) /

Slide3: Unique Insight (through User Research)

  • Tell us what only you know about the problem and/or how to solve the problem.
  • What kind of “Design Principles” have you set to design the solution?

🔨 toolkit

✔️ checklist

  • Isn’t the insight apparent (obvious) to everyone? /
  • Are there your design principles? /
  • Is it clear that the value proposition to users by solving the problems or needs? /
  • Does the value proposition match your design prompt? /

Slide4: Solution

  • Features and Specifications.
  • Describe the concrete benefits (especially user experience rather than product itself) you provide.

  • What are your differentiating factors?

🔨 toolkit

✔️ checklist

  • Is your product tangible? /
  • Does your product include engineering elements? /
  • Is the product feasible for your team? /
  • Are there some similar products and the differentiating factors of your product? /
  • Does the product successfully provide the value? /
  • Is it clear that new experiences or behaviors brought to users by providing the value? /
  • Is there a story how your product improved experience or behavior of the user? /

Slide5: Voice of User

  • How much does it solve the problem? Give us some evidences.

🔨 toolkit

✔️ checklist

  • Are there any data that supports your success (e.g. the result of user test). /

Slide6: Future Work

  • Do you have any future plan?

🔨 toolkit

Slide7: Ending and Call To Action

  • Photo of your prototype (again).
  • What do you want the audience to do next?
  • DO NOT end with just “Thank you” slide.

Tips for the pitch

  • You should have at most 3 pages per a slide (the title slide must be one page)
  • You can insert the video anywhere you want.
  • You SHOULD NOT use design thinking jargon (ex. POV, HMW, or so)
  • When creating a slide with a team, it is better to make it with something that everyone can edit at the same time, such as Google Slides. In addition, Google Slide looks different fonts if you use different OS, but you can solve it by using Japanese web fonts. Select [Japanese] from the [Other Fonts …] menu and select the font you want to use.
